Using the Nitro Discussion Column
Quote from Coleman Sleeper on September 12, 2024, 1:06 pmHello,
We've been trying to use the Nitro Discussion Column and aren't getting the result we expect.
Note: I can't provide images as our version of SP/Nitro is on a restricted domain.
We set the column up using:
GENERAL: Select Column=New, Display Name=Discussion, Internal Name=Discussion
INTERNAL DISCUSSION: Select Column=New, Display Name= Discussion Internal, Internal Name=DiscussionInternal, Checkbox Text= Default, Permission Groups=Reviewers (Five team members with Full Control)
We initially put the Discussion control on the form. For the Reviewers group - inputs displayed as expected.
Our general users though are unable to add comments to the field and receive the error Access Denied: You do not have permissions to perform this action. These users are able to update and save the form otherwise.
Attempted Solutions: Adding Discussion Internal control to the form. Removing Discussion control and leaving Discussion Internal control as only field. Result for both was the same error message.
So, which control should we place on the form? Discussion, Discussion Internal or both?
What permissions do the general users need to fil out and submit a form? (Note: Our users can fill out the form and submit the form and perform other edits in all other fields except this Discussion field. I want to clarify what the baseline permissions re though.)
Thank you.

Please let us know if any custom permission level is granted to the general users. If yes, then please share details of the custom permission level and we will try it locally.
“So, which control should we place on the form? Discussion, Discussion Internal or both?”
We should place only ‘Discussion’ column on the form. ‘Discussion Internal’ column is not needed on the form as internal comments can be viewed from the ‘Discussion’ column itself (by the selected permission groups).
“What permissions do the general users need to fil out and submit a form?”
Users need contribute permission or any higher permission level to submit the NITRO Form.
